Applications are now open for the Vertex Foundation Scholarship for the 2024-2025 academic year! The Vertex Foundation Scholarship helps people with cystic fibrosis (CF) and their families (siblings, caregivers, spouses and children) pursue two-year, three-year, four-year or graduate degrees by offsetting some of the cost of attending college or graduate school. Recipients will receive a one-time award of $5,000 USD/CAD toward the 2024-2025 academic year, and students and families may apply each year they are eligible.

Applications will be accepted through February 23, and we encourage you to apply now if you meet the eligibility criteria:

  • You are a legal resident of the U.S. or Canada.

  • You are or will be a full-time or part-time student in good academic standing at an accredited institution.

  • You have CF or are an immediate family member (sibling, caregiver, spouse or child) of someone diagnosed with CF.

The Vertex Foundation Scholarship was established in 2017 and has awarded 554 scholarships to outstanding students to date. We recognize that living with a serious illness impacts the entire family, and the Vertex Foundation strives to ease this burden through programs and partnerships that support families. For the 2023-2024 school year, the Vertex Foundation awarded 86 scholarships, enabling scholarship recipients to pursue their future careers. This included qualifying students who are studying creative writing, chemistry, medicine and education.

In addition to supporting the educational aspirations of so many, a unique aspect of this program is that it is open to immediate family members of someone living with CF, including caregivers, siblings and children.

We also greatly appreciate the CF community’s involvement — from application to recipient selection. The scholarship recipients are selected by an independent committee* that includes adults living with CF, parents, spouses and siblings.

No Vertex Foundation directors or Vertex Pharmaceuticals Incorporated employees will be on the committee, but the Vertex Foundation is responsible for selecting the individuals on the committee.
