Cystic Fibrosis Programs
Vertex has established programs to foster the pursuit of higher education, help people with CF live active lives, and support innovative clinical research that may improve the care of patients with CF.
Team Impact CF Project, Sponsored by Vertex Pharmaceuticals
This sponsorship matches courageous kids living with life-threatening, life-shortening and chronic illnesses, such as CF, as honorary, active members of college athletic teams local to where they live. Each child is "signed" onto a team and becomes an official member of the team from their Draft Day through to Graduation. Just as the child joins the athletic team, the student athletes join the child's support team. The highest level of involvement occurs during the regular season for each sport, but members of the team remain involved with the child throughout the year for approximately two to three years.
Vertex CF Scholarships
Vertex’s CF Scholarships help people with cystic fibrosis, and their families (siblings, caregivers, and children) in pursuing two-year, four-year, or graduate degrees to offset some of the cost of attending college or graduate school.
Scholarship recipients are chosen by an independent committee of CF community members based on a submitted essay and an applicant’s demonstrated level of community involvement, financial need, and academic achievement.
Applications for the 2020-2021 academic year will be accepted starting in September 2019 and recipients will be notified in Q1 of 2020. For the 2020-2021 academic year, the Vertex CF Scholarship Program will be renamed The Vertex Foundation Scholarship Program and will be funded by The Vertex Foundation, which seeks to improve the lives of people with serious diseases and in its communities through education, innovation, and health.
Vertex Innovation Awards (VIA)
VIA supports innovative and collaborative clinical research that may improve the care of patients with CF. Applications for clinical research projects are welcomed from across the entire field of CF and are to be led by an individual or individuals with an established career interest in CF. For the 2017 VIA cycle, the independent VIA committee of external experts will select 1-3 projects to support with grants up to a total of €500,000 (Euros).
Cystic Fibrosis Research Innovation Award (CF RIA)
The Vertex CF Research Innovation Awards are highly competitive grants created to inspire and support the next generation of M.D.s and Ph.Ds. who are working to advance the understanding of CF and establish their careers as CF researchers. The awards fall into two categories: Independent and Mentored.
Independent Research Innovation Awards provide grants of $750,000 dispersed over three years to support newly independent faculty members as they establish their own research programs with outstanding promise in CF. Up to two awards will be given annually in this category.
Mentored Research Innovation Awards provide grants of up to $125,000 dispersed over two years to support mentored projects with established CF researchers. Up to four awards in this category will be given annually.
Together these programs will provide up to $10 million over the next five years. Reviewed and selected by an independent steering committee, applications are now being accepted until January 8, 2018.

Love is in the Care
At the center of caring is love, that drives us to go above and beyond for others. Caregivers demonstrate this daily with their compassion, dedication, and hours spent taking care of loved ones living with cystic fibrosis. Vertex's Love is in the Care program is a way to recognize this special part of the CF community. As a tribute to these caregivers who make so much possible, we want to say THANK YOU.
If you are living with CF and would like to recognize your caregiver (not including health care providers), or if you know someone who cares for a loved one or loved ones with CF, share what makes them so special with us.
