At Vertex Pharmaceuticals, we have a longstanding commitment to inspire and equip the next generation to love science and pursue a career in STEM. We started a first-of-its-kind partnership with Boston Public Schools (BPS) in 2012 to bring more STEAM education opportunities to students.  

One of our signature programs is our high school summer internship, a six-week paid internship for BPS students that provides real-world lab experience, business experience, mentorship and more. Since 2012, we’ve hosted more than 300 students, many of whom have gone on to pursue a STEM career.  

“As a former high school teacher, it’s incredibly rewarding to be able to offer experiences that enrich what students are learning in school,” said André Williams, Head of our Boston Learning Lab. “Having the opportunity to perform experiments, try new things, and make mistakes is one way we can create that spark that could ignite a passion for science.”
