Making a difference

Everyone at Vertex is committed to making a difference in the lives of people with serious diseases. The same values that drive our search for new and transformative medicines — innovation, collaboration, fearlessness and a commitment to patients — also fuel our efforts to operate responsibly and  be a good corporate citizen.

Supporting the patient community

We’re dedicated to developing innovative medicines for serious diseases. Our aim is to make our medicines available to as many patients as possible around the world. Our cystic fibrosis (CF) medicines are reimbursed or accessible in more than 60 countries around the world, including Australia and New Zealand. We work with government agencies, policymakers, payors and patient advocacy organisations on identifying and securing pathways to access.

Fostering a culture of innovation,
integrity and belonging

Our unique culture, which celebrates innovation and fosters a sense of belonging for our talented team, along with our core values have been foundational to Vertex’s ability to create and deliver transformative medicines for people with serious diseases. We are the most innovative, make the best decisions for patients and attract the highest caliber of talent because our workforce represents the best and brightest talent — all working toward a shared mission. Sustaining our unique culture is a collective effort, and every single Vertexian is a steward of our culture and values.

In Australia we are members of Pride in Diversity and ACON's Welcome Here Project. We foster our emerging talent through the Future Women Emerging Leaders Program. We are also starting our Reconciliation Action Plan Journey.

Managing our environmental footprint

We are committed to limiting our environmental impact and to operating our business in a sustainable manner.  We implement a global approach that focuses on reducing our greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, conserving water, minimising waste, adopting green chemistry practices and promoting workplace safety. Then, we manage, measure and publish our progress. We source 100% renewable electricity for our Australian office. Learn more about how we are reducing our environmental footprint here.

Positively impacting our communities

We take community engagement as seriously as we take our science, with a variety of programs providing employees a chance to support and engage in their local communities — whether that’s through our annual Week of Service or the Vertex Foundation Matching Gift program. In Australia, we have most recently supported Ronald McDonald House Charities and OzHarvest through our annual Week of Service.

Grants and giving

At Vertex, giving back includes providing opportunities to support our communities through charitable giving, research awards and sponsorships. In Australia, Vertex and the Vertex Foundation fund a variety of programs that educate healthcare professionals, strengthen scientific research and fulfil unmet needs in the community.

Learn more about Vertex Foundation opportunities on its website, and learn more on our Grants and Giving page.
