Recognition & Awards

Vertex has continually been recognized as one of the industry's top places to work by leading publications such as Science magazine, The Boston Globe, Boston Business Journal, San Diego Business Journal and The Scientist. In addition, Vertex employees have received a variety of awards for their innovative work at Vertex and for their commitment to local communities.

San Diego Business Journal: In 2014, Vertex's San Diego site was named to the San Diego Business Journal's Best Places to Work list. The list is made up of 100 companies split into four categories based on employee count (small-, medium-, large- and mega-sized). To determine the winners, the magazine evaluated each nominated company's workplace policies, practices, philosophy, systems and demographics and then distributed an employee survey.

Boston Business Journal: For the 9th consectutive year, Vertex has been named to the Boston Business Journal's 'Best Places to Work' list. 

Science magazine: For five years in a row, Vertex has been named to the top five of the Top Employer list by Science magazine. In 2014, Vertex was named #4 on the list and was recognized for being an innovative leader in the industry, being socially responsible and for having culture values that are aligned with employees' personal values.

The Scientist magazine:  Vertex ranked #5 of the top 20 companies on The Scientist's annual "Best Places to Work in the Industry" list in 2012. This is the second time Vertex was included as a top place to work by The Scientist.

The Boston Globe: Vertex was named #17 on The Boston Globe's annual list of "Top Places to Work" in 2013. This was the fifth time Vertex was listed as a Top Place to Work by The Boston Globe.

In addition, Vertex employees are continually recognized for their pioneering science, industry leadership and commitment to the community.  Below are highlights from recent awards received by Vertex employees:

Healthcare Businesswomen's Association:  Vertex employees were recently recognized on HBA’s annual list of "Rising Stars" in health care.  In 2011, Pamela Stephenson, Vice President of Marketing, followed by Brenda Eustace, Associate Director, Oncology and Neuro, in 2014.

PharmaVOICE 100:  Two Vertex scientists have been named to the annual PharmaVOICE 100 list of life science leaders.  In 2010, Dr. Craig Sorensen, Vice President, Business and Corporate Development, was recognized by PharmaVOICE, followed by Dr. Fred Van Goor, Senior Research Fellow, in 2011.

Boston Business Journal 40 Under 40: In 2013, Chelley Casey, Director of Cystic Fibrosis Patient Services, was named to the Boston Business Journal 40 Under 40 list. Chelley was honored for her work in developing Vertex's Guidance and Support (GPS) program for cystic fibrosis, which helps patients and their families navigate through treatment. 

Mass High Tech Women to Watch: In 2012, Brinley Furey, Sr. Director, Oncology and Neuro, was named to the Mass High Tech Women to Watch list for her instrumental role in crafting Vertex's strategy in cancer research. Brinley started at Vertex in 1999 and is known for her tremendous focus, dedication, teamwork, leadership skills and just plain hard work. In 2013, Anne-Laure Grillot, Ph.D., Research Fellow II, Chemistry, was named to the Mass High Tech Women to Watch list for her leadership and for her work as the project lead for two of Vertex's early research programs for multiple sclerosis and an antibacterial project.

Pharmaceutical Executive magazine: In 2013, Francoise Berlioz-Seux, Vice President, Drug Metabolism and Pharmacokinetics (DMPK), was named to Pharmaceutical Executive magazine's Emerging Pharma Leaders list for her work in building Vertex's global DMPK team. In 2014, Hayden Thomas, Vice President, Formulation Development, was named to the list for his work establishing Vertex's continuous manufacturing program and for leading his team to meeting the regulatory qualifications to build a Development and Launch Rig (DLR) at our headquarters in Boston, MA.
