Why Intern at Vertex? Hear From Our 2017 Summer Interns

We were curious what attracted so many great candidates to our program, so we asked them one simple question: Why Vertex? 

 


Vertex interns around the world

Our labs and offices around the globe are buzzing with new talent this summer as more than 100 interns join our mission to bring transformative medicines to people with serious diseases. But these interns aren’t making copies or coffee runs; they’re a vital part of our innovation engine. From helping advance our gene editing research in collaboration with CRISPR Therapeutics, to creating a natural language processing system that accelerates the time it takes to search thousands of documents, some of our most fascinating projects are being driven by the brightest young minds in science.

More than 5,300 students applied for our program this year, making it the most competitive year to date. We were curious what attracted so many great candidates to our program, so we asked them one simple question: Why Vertex?

Pursuing a Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Maryland, Baltimore

 

“When I interned last year, it was definitely the innovative science that brought me to Vertex. I came back again this summer because I saw the passion in every Vertexian to work towards a cure for a rare genetic disease. “Coming from Albania, where the pharma industry is of a minuscule prominence compared to Boston, I have always wanted to experience the biotech and pharma world from a hands-on perspective. Currently studying Bioengineering at Harvard and previously working as a research intern at the Wyss Institute, I felt that being part of a company so heavily involved in cutting-edge research and dedicated to developing science for a greater cause, such as CF, would be an invaluable asset for any young researcher like myself.
