Rock CF Rivers Half Marathon
Rock CF Rivers Half Marathon & Relay
On March 20, 2016, 15 Vertexians traveled to Grosse Ile, Michigan, to participate in the 6th Annual Rock CF Rivers Half Marathon. This year, Team Vertex was among nearly 2,500 runners who participated in the half marathon, relay and 5K races.
The race is organized in support of the Rock CF Foundation, a Detroit-based nonprofit corporation dedicated to increasing the quality of life for people with cystic fibrosis. Rock CF utilizes the arts, entertainment, fashion and fitness to support research initiatives and heighten public awareness of CF. The event, directed by Rock CF founder Emily Schaller, a 34-year-old Grosse Ile native living with CF, is a family affair with Emily’s family, friends and local community coming together to raise awareness and financial support for CF each year.
2016 marks the third year that Team Vertex has participated in the Rock CF Rivers Half Marathon, but was the first for Team Vertex member Amanda Houser, who works in CF patient services. Amanda participated in the relay and was amazed by the support and sense of community at the event.
“I’m so grateful to have had the opportunity to represent Team Vertex and run alongside others in support of the CF community. The amount of support at the race was inspiring and the energy throughout the day was unmistakable. The whole event was true to the spirt of the community and the Rock CF organization.”

Funds raised by race participants support Rock CF programs throughout the year, like the Rock CF Kicks Back program, that donates running shoes to people living with CF, and Rock CF Rocks Back, which provides percussion and wind instruments and lessons to people living with CF.
