Giving back is part of who we are – it’s in our DNA. Over the last 30 years, Vertex has grown into a leading global biotech that repeatedly innovates to bring transformative medicines to people around the world. As we’ve grown, so too has our commitment to giving back to patients and the community - from our annual Day of Service, to our Vertex Learning Lab, scholarship awards and our patient assistance programs.

In recognition of this, we are announcing the next chapter in our giving: a sustained giving commitment of $500 million over the next 10 years. This commitment is focused on areas where we feel we can have the greatest impact including:

  • The Cystic Fibrosis patient community globally, including enabling access to our medicines;
  • A 10-year, $50 million commitment to science, technology, engineering, arts and math (STEAM) education, focused on underserved students and young women;
  • Developing young physicians and scientists; and
  • Strengthening our local communities, including fostering the innovation ecosystem and supporting youth health and wellness.

As part of this effort, we’re also creating The Vertex Foundation - a long-term source of charitable giving - with an initial commitment of $10 million. The Foundation will include a dollar-for-dollar employee matching program to extend the reach of our employees’ charitable giving.

This overall commitment will provide opportunities for Vertex and our employees to make a difference in the lives of people with serious diseases and those living in our communities – a difference that goes to the heart of what the Vertex family strives for every day.
