At Vertex, innovation is our lifeblood. It’s also a core value of the company. In order to deliver medical innovation to patients, we must be willing to take on great challenges, try new approaches, and navigate difficult or uncharted waters.
To succeed, we are committed to delivering the best science, and to do that we build highly talented research and development teams that attract others to invest in our mission. But we must also foster a regulatory and policy landscape that supports medical innovation and those who pursue it.
In this arena, rarely do we come across neutrality. Laws, regulations, policies, each present an opportunity to dramatically help or hinder our efforts. Leadership in public policy and government affairs is about identifying opportunities for collaboration, building lasting external alliances, and motivating and mobilizing people to take action to help us deliver breakthrough medicines to patients. Every interaction, whether it’s with a patient, a doctor, a global ambassador, a Member of Congress, or a regulatory official, is an opportunity to win support for our cause.
