We’ve built a worldwide community of top researchers and institutions that share our vision for change. With this approach, we think transformative solutions can be achieved even if there is never a “perfect cure.”
With baby boomers accounting for two of every three cases of hepatitis C virus, attention must be paid to their disease progression from asymptomatic infection to advanced liver disease and the consequences of inaction. Vertex commissioned Milliman, Inc. to conduct an actuarial analysis titled: “Consequences of Hepatitis C Virus (HCV): Costs of a Baby Boomer Epidemic of Liver Disease.” This new report projects the direct medical cost impact of hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection on commercial and government payers over the next 20 years, concluding that total medical costs for patients with HCV infection are expected to increase from $30 billion in 2009 to over $85 billion in 2024.
