Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of Canada (CCFC)

Vertex is committed to creating new possibilities in medicine by understanding the underlying causes of serious diseases. To complement our ongoing research efforts in Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), Vertex joined forces with the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of Canada (CCFC) to look at the causes of IBD, specifically Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis.

We believe that Canada is an important place to look at the potential causes of IBD because more people suffer from the disease in Canada than nearly anywhere else in the world. With this in mind, Vertex established a site in Laval, Quebec in 2009, and since that time, more than 45 scientists have been focused on IBD research, as well as other discovery and development activities.

This collaboration is also an example of our commitment to open networks of discovery and development and offers a unique model for future medical research since both a biotech and a charitable organization are funding projects at academic centers.
