In Our Communities
Our people are more than just employees of Vertex -- we are members of the communities in which we operate, working together with local neighborhood groups, nonprofits and other organizations to make the places where we live and work stronger. Vertex's support in our local communities is evident through both the commitment of financial resources as well as employees' time for important health initiatives, science education and various volunteer activities.
Vertex supports programs and initiatives in the countries in which we operate to educate healthcare professionals, raise disease awareness and provide support to non-profit organizations that help people living with diseases where we focus our research and development efforts. These areas include hepatitis C, cystic fibrosis, neuroscience, cancer, autoimmune disease, and other infectious diseases.
Vertex has a broad commitment to support science education with the goal of engaging our next generation of scientists. In the local communities in which Vertex operates, the company supports a variety of programs to enhance science, math and health education and local organizations that especially aid underserved or disadvantaged populations.
Also, in 2012 Vertex established a unique collaboration with the Boston Public Schools (BPS) to support a range of activities aimed at enhancing science education. As part of the collaboration, Vertex is focusing its efforts on two Boston Public School (BPS) high schools in South Boston where programs will aim to increase student participation and achievement science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) courses.
Vertex has a long-standing commitment to help develop the next generation of scientific leaders. Our people work together with students and scientists throughout the Boston community to make this a vibrant and interesting place to live, work, and raise a family.

The Thomas M. Menino Vertex Learning Lab is located at Vertex's headquarters in Boston, MA, and is a 3,000 sq. ft. classroom and laboratory space. The lab hosts a number of activities and programs where students and teachers can work alongside Vertex scientists, with the goal of inspiring scientific inquiry and enhancing science education in our community. Currently, these programs are targeted to students at Excel High School and Boston Green Academy as part of our collaboration with the Boston Public Schools.
Vertex’s community relations initiatives connect the company and its employees to local communities through unique volunteer opportunities and other activities that aim to support science education as well as organizations that work to improve healthcare. Vertex employees are eligible to take part in organized volunteer activates, such as the company's annual worldwide Day of Service, and many of our employees volunteer their own time to support local and community groups.
